This 1973 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is one of 252 SD-455 examples produced for the model year. A subsequent two-year refurbishment completed in 2015 included a rebuild of its 455ci V8 and a body-off repaint in Buccaneer Red. Equipment includes a three-speed automatic transmission, a limited-slip differential, power steering and front disc brakes, 15″ honeycomb wheels, a shaker hood scoop, and a Rochester four-barrel carburetor along with air conditioning, power windows and door locks, tilt steering, a rear window defroster, a front center console, and an ASC electric sunroof.
The Super Duty 455ci V8 breathes through a Rochester Quadrajet carburetor and dual exhaust pipes flowing into a single transverse-mounted muffler with dual outlets.
The XD-code block stamping corresponds with a 455ci/290hp Super Duty V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission, 180 examples of which were were produced for the 1973 model year.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a TH400 three-speed automatic transmission and a Safe-T-Track rear axle.
The car was refinished in Buccaneer Red during the refurbishment and features Trans Am decals on the hood, fenders, and decklid. Additional exterior details include an Endura front bumper cover, a shaker hood, front fender vents, dual body-color side mirrors, bright window trim, concealed windshield wipers, three-piece front and rear spoilers, and dual exhaust outlets with chrome tips. The installation of an ASC electric sunroof have been commissioned by the car’s original owner.
Honeycomb 15″ polycast steel wheels wearing chrome trim rings and arrowhead center caps are mounted with Goodyear Steelguard tires. Steering is power assisted as are the front disc and rear drum brakes.
The cabin features front bucket and a rear bench seats trimmed in white vinyl with matching door panels and a contrasting black dash pad and carpeting. Appointments include air conditioning, power windows and locks, a front center consoles, a remote-adjustable driver-side mirror, a passenger grab handle, and a push-button Delco AM/FM radio.
The reconditioned Formula steering wheel is mounted on a tilting column and fronts an engine-turned aluminum dash panel housing a 160-mph speedometer and an 8k-rpm tachometer as well as gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, fuel level, and voltage.
The five-digit odometer shows 19 miles, and true mileage is unknown.
