The exterior was refinished in Porsche-specification Tangerine, the interior was retrimmed in black and gray upholstery with houndstooth inserts, the suspension was overhauled, and a 2.3-liter flat-four with forged internals was fitted along with a close-ratio Berg five-speed manual transaxle and a ZF limited-slip differential.
The replacement 2,332cc flat-four is fitted with dual Weber 48 IDA carburetors and MSD electronic ignition, and work performed during the rebuild included installation of: SCAT forged and counterweighted crankshaft, H-beam connecting rods, Wiseco 94mm forged pistons, Re-ground Steve Long Racing XR-series camshaft with 0.576 lift and 310° duration, Magnum straight-cut camshaft gears, SCAT Lube-A-Lobe lightweight lifters, Ported 44mm x 37.5mm VW cylinder heads with 9.6:1 compression ratio, Gene Berg 1.47 forged rocker arms, chromoly pushrods, stainless-steel pushrod tubes, PSI springs, and titanium retainers, Match-ported Bugpack intake manifolds, Magnesium dual-relief AS41 engine case, ARP fasteners, SCAT dual-port cylinder tin with a doghouse oil cooler, 95 Amp polished alternator and JayCee billet pulleys, A-1 Sidewinder exhaust system.
The engine was rebuilt in March 2021, at which time a valve job was performed, the lifters and camshaft were reground, the carburetors were cleaned and adjusted, bearings were replaced, and a second fuel filter was installed before the fuel pressure regulator.
A break-in oil change was carried out in preparation for sale.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a close-ratio Berg five-speed manual transaxle with a 3.88 ring and pinion and a ZF limited-slip differential.
A Berg transmission brace has also been installed along with upgraded rubber transmission mounts and shorter Type 3 CV axles.
The clutch disc and transaxle input shaft seal were replaced in March 2021.
The body was separated from the chassis and was repainted in Porsche Tangerine (L21E) in 2012.
Features include chrome bumpers and trim, a filled antenna hole, and “shaved” side markers.
During the refurbishment, rust repairs were made to the lower left edge of the rear decklid as well as the right rear of the floor pan, after which the entire pan was painted in gloss black.
An aftermarket windshield was installed in March 2021.
15″ Fuchs wheels with Porsche crest center caps wear 165/60 Continental ContiProContact tires up front and 225/50 Pirelli P Zero tires out back.
The suspension was fitted with Koni shocks, replacement ball joints, a Sway-A-Way ball joint beam adjuster, narrowed rear trailing arms, single rear spring plates, JayCee billet spring plate retainers, and CSP billet stabilizer bars for the rear frame horns.
A Koni adjustable steering stabilizer was also installed along with replacement tie rod ends and a TRW steering box.
Braking is provided by cross-drilled rotors at each corner, and the front brake pads and rotors were replaced in March 2021.
The cabin features heated and “shaved” SCAT Procar Rally front seats retrimmed in black cloth and gray vinyl with houndstooth cloth inserts, along with two-tone door trim and gray square-weave carpets.
Additional appointments include front shoulder belts, a Berg-5 locking shifter lever, and a Parrot Bluetooth audio system connected to an AudioControl pre-amp equalizer, a Pioneer amplifier, Alpine speakers, and a JL Audio subwoofer.
Sound deadening material lines the floors and kick panels, the rear seats were modified with added bolstering to resemble the front seats, and the switchgear has been relocated beneath the dashboard and the battery was relocated behind the right-rear seat.
The leather-wrapped Nardi Torino steering wheel fronts refurbished VDO instrumentation that have been sourced from a Porsche 914 and includes a centrally located tachometer with a 5,600-rpm redline, a 150-mph speedometer, and gauges for voltage, fuel level, oil temperature, and oil pressure.
The five-digit odometer shows just over 8k miles, total mileage is unknown.
